A different kind of report card…
Traditional public schools keep making headlines about everything from enrollment and absenteeism to teacher shortages, cell phones, and AI, so this summer, Gallup/PDK polled 1,005 adults and found that:
- ** 59% would likely send their kids to a private or religious school “if offered public funds to cover at least a portion of the cost.”
- ** 43% gave their own community school either an A or a B, down from 53% in 2013.
- ** 13% gave traditional public schools an A or a B, down from 26% in 2004.
- ** 70% said they are very or somewhat satisfied with “the amount of say they have in their child’s education.”
- ** 50% of Republicans said they are very or somewhat satisfied with “the amount of say they have in their child’s education” vs. 80% of Democrats and 73% of Independents.
Meanwhile…
- *** 100% of those with kids in private school said they are somewhat or very satisfied with their child’s education vs. 61% of those with public school kids.
- *** 59% support using public funds to send children to private or religious schools, up from 56% in 2020.
- *** 66% oppose eliminating the U.S. Department of Education.
- *** Between 97% and 99% said school safety, student sense of belonging, career, tech ed, and teacher shortages are somewhat or very important.
- 61% said Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity is very or somewhat important.
And that’s reportedly how it is…
