1. Chicago, Milwaukee, and NYC have all terminated their federal Teacher Incentive Fund grants that promoted performance-based compensation plans and professional development for teachers and principals, thus giving up on an $88 million payout over five years.
  2. The National Education Association (NEA) is backing Obama’s push for the DREAM Act which would allow children of illegal immigrants conditional permanent residency and subsequent benefits.
  3. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that automatic budget cuts will eliminate $590 million from the Head Start program which will be more than $7.9 billion in 2012.
