As reported by Cheryl Wetzstein of the Washington Times, “Children in California public schools must be accommodated on their self-perceived gender identity–which means biological girls may use boys’ bathrooms and biological boys may join the girls’ cheerleading squad–under a law signed Monday by California Governor Jerry Brown. The law goes into effect January 1 and is expected to affect some 6.2 million public school students in kindergarten to 12th grade.”

Dubbed the School Success and Opportunity Act, it was introduced by California Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, a Democrat, with the blessings of the Transgender Law Center and other gay-rights groups. Under said law, K-12 public school students must be “permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.” And that’s that. It’s the law, at least in California–for now.

Bottom line: The designations “Boys’ Room” and “Girls’ Room” no longer need apply in the Golden State, but is that a good and noble decision? a politically correct one whose time has come? or, as the Pacific Justice Institute says, “gender insanity?” You tell me.
